How to Choose: Make vs Do

MAKE is used when we create or cause a result/outcome, or refer to fixed multi‑word expressions: make a decision, make a mistake, make progress, make arrangements, make an effort, make friends, make a complaint, make a reservation, make sure.

DO is used for actions, work, tasks, duties, or when the action is general/unspecified: do homework, do research, do business, do the dishes, do exercise, do the laundry, do your best, do a favour, do harm/good.
